Here I am in China
Shanghai
Shanghai Times Square:

Tomorrow Square:

Shanghai Hongqiao Airport:
I had to catch a flight to Beijing

Beijing
The Forbidden City was the Chinese Imperial Palace from the mid-Ming Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty.

Freedom to all the people!
Me preparing my trip to The Great Wall of China. The weather forecast for the next morning will be blizzards with temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees celcius (-30C/-22F). China experienced the coldest
winter in more then 40 years. But as “Bucked headed” as I am, nothing will stop me from going to the wall.

After a dreadfull 6 hour bus ride I still had to walk for 45 min. uphill in the snow to the wall.

Getting excited! I start to see something in the distance.

Arriving at closed gates. All effort for nothing. Because of the terrible weather nobody was allowed to walk on “The Great Wall of China”. Isn’t that great? ;(

I am coming from the cold, but I am going where it’s even colder.

Going up north to Harbin
Because of the terrible winter weather al domestic flights to the north where cancelled. The only option left was “business class” by night train (Z1). A 10 hours ride.
So here I am on my way to the Beijing Railway Station.
Standing in line to take the night train

Did I mentioned business class? Well this is my coupe with so called “Soft Sleeper”.

Harbin – Arriving at the Ice & Snow Festival
The Harbin International Ice & Snow Festival has been celebrated annually since 1985, which officially starts January 5 and lasts one month. As the largest and most extraordinary of its kind in the world, this great festival
is held to coincide with the Harbin Ice and Snow World, Exhibition of Ice Sculptures held in the Stalin Park, the Snow Sculptures Fair in the Sun Island and the Ice Lanterns Fair held in Zhaolin Park (in central Harbin next to
the Songhua River.

I will be on national Chinese TV!

I had enough of the cold weather. Gone by me a ticket to the tropic!

Sanya – Up to the southernmost city in China
In less then 7 hours by airplane I moved from minus 20 degrees celcius to plus 28 degree celsius to Sanya Island with its tropical climate.
To be continued!!!
